The Center for Performance Audit and Forensics (CPAF) recently conducted a training session for young ICT students on auditing network devices using Nipper. The one-day seminar, held on June 1, 2024, at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance in Kampala, was led by Ms. Samari Kakibale, a seasoned cyber security expert with extensive experience in the banking sector.
Ms. Kakibale emphasized the importance of Nipper as a tool for configuration management, compliance, and control, highlighting its ability to audit devices with high accuracy and prioritize fixes. "Nipper provides a detailed assessment and is a fact-based tool, making compliance easy," she noted.
Students and young ICT professionals who attended the training were enthusiastic about the practical course, designed by Ms. Kakibale and Raphael J. Olowo.
Arthur Odong, a second-year computer science student at UICT, praised the training, saying, "I never expected to gain such valuable skills, but now I'm eager to continue learning and practicing. Thank you, CPAF, for this opportunity."
Edith Nalwanga, a graduate of information systems and technology, also found the training insightful, saying, "I had heard about Nipper but never had the chance to practice it. I'm willing to attend another session and recommend it to my former classmates."
Raphael Olowo, CPAF Chief Executive, thanked the students for participating and shared his personal philosophy, inspired by his former mentor, Rev Fr. Dr. Thomas Odua (RIP): "Wherever you go, impact people's lives. I want to be remembered as someone who enriched others' lives."
